Selected clients, 2019 – 2026
Halftone Atelier is an independent studio of eleven designers and engineers. We take a product from first sketch to shipped interface — and stay until it is used.
Featured projects
Research, design and launch, side by side with the client's own team. These are the engagements we point new clients to first.
Ostrelo01 / 04
Redesigned checkout and the mobile app so shoppers see a firm delivery window before they pay.
Mosswell02 / 04
Editorial site and configurator for Mosswell's prefabricated timber homes, from first sketch to signed order.
Pellora03 / 04
New type, colour and illustration system for Pellora, documented as a library their four product teams share.
Talvik04 / 04
Naming, packaging and the launch site for Talvik's first over-ear headphones, sold out in eleven days.
How we work
Halftone Atelier starts every engagement with a week on site: we sit with your team, map the work as it really happens, and leave with a shared plan instead of a slide deck.
Product, support and the people closest to customers shape the brief together, from day one.
We test clickable flows with real customers inside the first week, not after a month of wireframes.
Each workshop ends with scoped, sequenced work your engineers have already seen and estimated.
Our story
Halftone Atelier started as two designers sharing a desk in Lisbon and a stubborn belief: interfaces should be shaped with the people who use them every day, not handed over in a PDF. We are now eleven designers and engineers across two studios — still small on purpose, still shipping what we draw.
2019
Inês Carvalho and Joris van Dam leave agency life to work directly with product teams. The first client is a four-person logistics start-up.
2021
Our component library for Pellora ships to 140 engineers. We start writing code alongside every design we deliver.
2022
Joris moves north to open a second studio by the Maas, closer to our clients in the Netherlands and Germany.
2024
We publish our research methods and workshop kits as Field Notes. Over 9,000 practitioners now read them each month.
2026
We turn down more work than we take on, so every project gets a senior designer and engineer from kickoff to launch.
Taking on two projects for spring
Spend a morning in the studio with the people who would design it. You leave with a scoped plan and a first sketch, whether or not we work together.
